Welcome back to The Short Corner where the predictions being terrible is as consistent as Arsenal grinding out a 1-0 set piece win. Quick check in on last weeks results and then some predictions I wouldn’t bet my house on.

Match One: Man U vs Brighton
Prediction : 3-1 Brighton
Reality: 4-2 Man U

In real good news for Frank it seems like United may be starting to put things together. They look dangerous going forward and solid enough to survive in the back.

As for Brighton they seem to be the team I have no clue about this year.

Match One: Arsenal vs Crystal Palace
Prediction : 1-0 Arsenal from a set piece
Reality: 1-0 Arsenal from a set piece

Really not much more to say. This is what Arsenal does and will do until someone can force a change. Doesn’t seem likely this year.

Match One: Aston Villa vs Man City
Prediction : 1-1
Reality: 1-0 Villa

If Haaland was a touch more clinical I’d have this dead on.

To quote my inside source—“Villa today played well, they played like Man City and they didn’t know what to do. I had anxiety all match as they were in their own half, They played with no fear but I was shitting it. They beat Man City at their own game”.

Match One: Bournemouth vs Forest
Prediction : 2-0 Cherries
Reality: Dead on

Couldn’t have been more right. Going to savor this one because nothing but failure lies ahead.

This week we’ll take a peek at league leading Arsenal playing a promoted squad, a London derby, the surprising 2nd place team and the downfall of Liverpool

Onto this week!

Match 1

Burnley vs Arsenal

They may not be flashy, they may not be overwhelming but certainly are brutally efficient.

And boring. This is a boring team to watch. Oddly enough this is just the sort of table leading team I think Burnley would want to play. This isn’t a Sir Alex United squad that looked to blow your doors off or the recent Pep City squads that would kill you with a thousand passes till they found the angle they needed. Yes this Arsenal team is good and impossible to score against but they are also predictable.

This is the type of game the Arsenal of old would stub their toe on. I think the defense is just too good for that to happen this year.

1-0 Arsenal

Match 2

Spurs vs Chelsea

I expect chaos to reign. Spurs are in form and who knows what you’ll get from the blues. Take a red 6 minutes in? Be up 2-0 within 20? No one really knows.

As a Chelsea fan I feel like we always lose this game. I don’t see that changing.

3-2 Spurs

Match 3

Manchester City v Bournemouth

City at home coming off a loss will provide all the rest we need to see if the Cherries are legit and attempting a Leicester.

Everything seems slightly off for City. Haaland missing a chance he buried nearly every time before just makes you think this isn’t there year yet.

On the side of the pitch Bournemouth are having a blast, attacking and playing enjoyable football to go along with their winning. Going to pick this one with my heart not my head.

2-1 Bournemouth

Match 4

Liverpool vs Aston Villa

Aston Villa have even their most jaded fan feeling their oats right now. They’re starting to look far more like last years squad than whatever mess they were to start the campaign and this weekend they have a chance to basically end Liverpool’s repeat hopes.

Look, we all know about the tragedy in the off season. Sometimes overwhelming emotion can sustain you for awhile but then the crash comes. Salah looks old, Isak seems incapable of scoring and even VVD is making lazy mistakes in the back. Last season was long, the offseason terrible. Sometimes it’s just not your year.

3-1 Villa

I don’t give gambling advice but 1-0 to the Arsenal is the best bet going.

Go Studs Up!
